“ORDER RECD 9 AUG 8—” runs into the page edge, so the final digit of the year is lost; 1982 is taken from the dated entries either side of it in the bound ledger (22 July and 2 September 82), and the full ISO date is therefore withheld. The chainstays row is left blank, and “WIDTH” is inserted above the line so the ends read “extra width for 6 speed”. The customer’s last address line reads “L.E.” followed by what is probably a telephone number, partly obscured by a smudge — probably a Leicester telephone number, though the reading is not certain. The entry is crossed through and signed “S Standard” at the foot.
