No number
“Complete cycle.” and “27" HPs” are written above the printed heading. The frame number box is not empty: it holds a number reading most nearly “841025”, though the scan is filed under 840125 — either reading falls outside the recorded 1984 run, which ends at 841021, so the sheet stays filed without a register number. No date appears anywhere on the sheet, so the year is left unrecorded. The district on the address line is the sheet's own abbreviation, most likely West Bridgford, and a telephone number follows it. A fraction after the 23 in the size box is inked out. Filed with it is a costed build list, scanned upside down, headed “Dalesman 355” and “Eric Allen”: “Basically ‘Dalesman’ specification”, the frame at £165 in 531 double-butted all round with 72° angles, cable guides and lamp boss, sized “23¼" or 23½"”; Esge chromoplastic mudguards, a Madison saddle over a struck Brooks B17, Laprade seat pin, Campagnolo quick-release hubs, Super Champion Mod 58 27" rims with touring tyres, Stronglight ‘99’ chainset, Sedisport chain over a struck “Louver Gold”, Sun Tour gears (Cyclone struck, “VX-S” 10-speed) with levers, MKS pedals with clips and straps, Weinmann side-pull brakes over a struck centre-pull, and GB handlebars with stem, tape and plugs — the totals reworked several times before settling at 341-28. In the middle of the list, in running prose: “Panniers will be needed in due course; hence possibly pannier-lugs? or is it better without pannier-lugs”.
